Shoppers praise Black Friday because of the sales, deals, and bargains they capsize on. Criminals praise Black Friday because the chaotic atmosphere makes for easy shoplifting and pickpocketing. Learn how to safely shop without a body guard this season by following the tips below.

Don’t Carry More Than You Can Hold

Just because you can’t beat the sales doesn’t mean you need to buy everything! Make a list of the things you want to purchase before heading out so you’ll be less likely to make impulse decisions. Carrying an excess of products also makes it extremely easy for shoplifters to grab things right out of your cart or bag without you noticing.

Be Aware of Panhandlers

Carry your purse tightly under your arm or keep your wallet in your jacket to safely secure your money and other valuables.

Create a Separation Plan

If you’re shopping with a child create a separation plan. Have a specific spot you’ll meet at and remind them of the dangers of engaging with strangers.

Ask for Assistance

If you have a lot of packages and need assistance to your car, ask a store employee. Avoid asking strangers or passerby’s

Shop Online with Companies You Trust

There will be great deals being offered but keep in mind if it’s too good to be true, it probably is. Do your research on a company before giving them your credit card information.

Bonus: Read our article on holiday cyber threats.

Save all Your Receipts

Save all the receipts you get while shopping, and print out any confirmation e-mails you get from shopping online. This will protect you from any discrepancies in comparison to your bank statement.
