You Can Always Get What You Want

What’s your intention? Do you want a promotion? A romantic relationship? Maybe you simply want more respect from your peers or coworkers. It’s important to walk into every room and conversation knowing what you want to get out of it. Indecisiveness and a passive attitude will not enable you to climb up the social or business ladder. Don’t be afraid to go after your goals.

Dress the Part

Your image says a lot about you. It’s the first thing someone notices when you initially meet, so it’s vital that you display yourself in an appropriate light. Ripped jeans and a stained shirt doesn’t exactly scream, “potential CEO.” Make sure your clothes, jewelry, bag, briefcase, etc. give off the impression that you intend to when you meet people for the first time.

Be Conscious of Your Body Language

Stand up straight, pick your head up and walk with confidence. Although you may not be aware of it, your body language is constantly relaying messages to everyone else around you. You may be happy and interested in the conversation, but your body language may cause others to think you’re bored or uninterested simply because you’re slouching.

Be Interested!

Greet everyone as if you are genuinely interested in seeing them and hearing what they have to say. This attitude is contagious, and others will constantly want to be around you. There’s nothing worse than talking to someone and getting the impression that they couldn’t care less. Having a genuine interest in people you meet will give them a great first impression of you.


Simple, contagious, and sure to lighten the mood of any situition, a smile goes a long way. When you turn your frown upside down, you are sending signals to your brain that can "trick" it into feeling happy. Make it a point to smile an extra 10 times today and see if you notice a difference in your mood and in the responses of the people around you.
