GrowAt the end of each and every year we cannot help but find ourselves saying the same cliché sentences; “Wow, this was one crazy year.” or “Man, this year flew by.” However, I think we can collectively agree that 2017 has not been the normal “crazy year” we’ve grown so accustomed to in the past. Here are just a few of the highlights and major headline stories of this jam packed year, to look back and reflect on.
  1. Presidential Inauguration - We started off this year with the inauguration of President Donald Trump on January 20th in our nation’s capital, Washington, DC.
  2. Zealandia - Did anyone know we may have an eighth continent in a couple of years? Zealandia is the youngest, thinnest and most submerged of all continents, with 94% of its surface currently under water. (GSA Today)
  3. "The Great American Eclipse” - August 21, 2017- We saw the first total eclipse in nearly 40 years, and the next one won’t be until 2024
  4. Hurricane Harvey - August 25, 2017 - Hurricane Harvey was the most costly natural disaster in United States history.  It was a Category 4 hurricane, causing catastrophic damage to the Houston metropolitan area.  At least 90 deaths were recorded and total damages have reached $198.6 billion.
  5. Carson Wentz - Probably one of the biggest tragedies, especially for the greater Philadelphia area, was Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback Carson Wentz being out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL during the 43-35 win over the Los Angeles Rams in Los Angeles on December 10th.
For some people, 2017 was the worst year; for others, it was the complete opposite. But for most, one can only hope that 2018 will be just a little more relaxed. Then again it can’t be too boring because where would be the fun in that? Let’s take a look at some things happening in 2018 that will have us all excited for the New Year.
  1. Winter Olympics - February 9 - 25 - The 2018 Winter Olympics will take place in Pyeongchang, South Korea from Friday, February 9 to Sunday February 25.
  2. The “Frozen” Musical! - The kid’s movie we all know and love will be coming to Broadway! Yes, you heard that right you soon will be able to see Anna and Elsa live on the big stage starting in February of 2018.
  3. A Royal Wedding & Royal Baby - Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding is planned for May of 2018. We should also be expecting the third royal baby from Prince William and Duchess Catherine in April.
  4. World Cup - The 2018 world cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup.  It is scheduled to take place in Russia from June 14 to July 15, 2018

Regardless of how you’ve felt during all the twists and turns of 2017, make this year a year of finding, of fulfillment, of joy, peace, and purpose. Learn from what was done in 2017 and grow from it, because 2018 is the start of something wonderful!
