May is the perfect month: not too cold, not too hot- perfect temperature to spend your days outside. Luckily, there’s an abundance of events offered locally that many people aren’t aware of. To ensure that you’re making good use of this amazing weather, we’ve compiled a list of events you can’t miss this month. Take a look for yourself!
1. MAY DAY FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS
Come out to Everhart Park in West Chester on Sunday, May 3rd from 11:00-4:00 and experience all the May Day Festival has to offer! There will be mimes, jugglers, dancers, and more! The festival will showcase about 60 artist offering high quality arts and crafts. Enjoy the music, fresh food and entertainment!
2. SLEEPING BEAUTY
West Chester University will feature Sleeping Beauty from May 1st to May 3rd. The event will be presented by the Brandywine Ballet, so you can bet you’ll be in for a show! Don’t miss the amazing songs, acting, and choreography this classic fairytale has to offer.
3. MOTHERS DAY EXPRESS
Treat your mom to a train ride this Mother’s Day! This 90 minute commute starts at the West Chester Railroad and explores the scenic routes from Glen Mills through Brandywine Valley. Experience a scenic ride on one of the country’s oldest train routes on Sunday, May 10th at 12 pm and 2 pm!
4. BIKE THE BRANDYWINE
On Saturday, May 16th from 9 am to noon, bike riders will join together for a celebration! Show your support by biking out to Kerr Park with your loved ones. Here, you’ll get to enjoy bike rides, safety education programs, music, and more! Be sure to bring a packed lunch so you can relax on the lush green grass after all that exercise!
5. DOWNINGTOWN MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
On May 25th, a Memorial Day parade will kick off at 10 A.M. at Beaver Creek Elementary. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes, as participants will demonstrate their pride by walking from the school to Kerr Park in Downingtown, see you there!
